Sport news: Messi! Oya see the five reasons why Barca star must move on..no time to waste

No doubt, the existence of Lionel Messi has added glamour and colour to the beautiful game of football.

The 28-year-old is arguably the best player ever to have graced the football pitch which has earned him an unprecedented Ballon d’Or five times, two more than his closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the Argentine is seen to be struggling in 2016, although he has shown glimpses of how ‘destructive’ he could be in front of goal, Messi has not been so ‘alienic’ as he used to be and football lovers around the world have continued to raise questions;

should Messi leave Barcelona?

Below are five reasons Messi must move on

1. Gone past his peak period?: The 28-year-old has been exceptional for more than a decade now. He has been named among the best three players for the past nine consecutive years, and winning it five times.

Messi’s games has really dwindled and failed to live up to expectation at home in the reverse La liga fixture of the El Clasico as 10-man Real Madrid ran away with a 1 – 2 victory.

image
Messi

The Argentine was also totally out of action on Wednesday April 13, when Atletico Madrid defeated Barcelona 2 – 0to ensure the Catalan Giants crash out of the Champions League. It is obvious the player is beginning to struggle with the Camp Nou side, and that could be a signal that his time is up at Barcelona.

2. Presence of Neymar and Suarez: Suarez has shown great potentials. Arguably, he is currently the best striker on the planet at the moment. His sensational strike against Arsenal in the Champions League round of 16 will not be forgotten so soon.

His presence in the Barcelona attack has reduced the burden of Messi. The combination of Messi, Neymar and Suarez (MSN as the trio are popularly called) has delegated attacking activities at the club, and on several occasions, Suarez and Neymar have stolen the show. An indication Messi is now dispensable at the club.

3. Messi needs fresh challenges: Messi has played his entire career game at Barcelona. He probably needs new challenges, since he has won ‘everything’ with Barcelona.

Although he had a six-year youth career back home with Newell’s Old Boys between 1996 and 2000.

Messi has been a Barcelona for about 16years, as he joined the squad in the year 2000. He started playing with the first team in 2004.

4. Ever-present Spanish tax problems: Messi and his father Jorge face are still under trial over an alleged £3.1million tax fraud relating to image rights deals.

Although, there are reports that Spain’s public prosecutor has dropped tax fraud charges against Lionel Messi, the Barcelona star’s father, Jorge, will reportedly stand trial over the allegations, which relate to the Argentina international’s image rights.

A top player in Barcelona disclosed in 2015 that Messi is having difficult time in Spain in that regard.

5. Age: By June 24, 2016, the Argentina striker will be 29 years old. Age could really be telling on the current world best player.

See the open letter wey "Malala" write to the families of the Chibok girls

image

Dear mothers and fathers,

I write this letter with a heavy heart, knowing you have endured another year separated from your daughters. I think of you every day since we first met two years ago – and join millions of people around the world in praying for the safety and swift return of your girls.
As I did last year, I call on President Buhari of Nigeria – and everyone who can help rescue the Chibok girls – to act now. Would a president give up the fight for his own daughter? These girls are just as precious to their families.
Parents, thank you for having the courage to send your daughters to school. My dream is that one day they will come home, finish their education and choose their futures for themselves.
I pray for the day when you can embrace your girls again.

Your sister,

Malala

Photos: see the Pregnant woman wey pour hot water on her househelp's breasts because she wake up late

image

A pregnant woman faces child abuse and human trafficking charges after she attacked her housemaid with boiling water for waking up late.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, mother of one Kemi Egbukole, 36, poured boiling water on 16-year-old Hope David leaving her breasts with severe injuries. Police said Egbukole would be charged after investigations are concluded.
Mrs. Egbukole, a resident of of Minta 1 Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja, is currently being investigated for child abuse and trafficking offences by the Police, National Human Rights Commission and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons,( NAPTIP)
According to the Deputy Director, Protection and Investigations, National Human Rights Commission, Lambert Oparah, Mrs. Egbukole initially denied the assault charges but later admitted the attack, claiming it was an accident, and the victim was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

image

The Director however revealed that Hope wasn't taken to the hospital as claimed by the suspect.
"She was taken to a chemist, they put plasters around her breast which was not quite good," he said
Neighbours who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES described Mrs. Egbukole as a "notorious child abuser" who repeatedly attacked Hope with dangerous objects including rods.
"She ran out of the house and came to my side," one of the neighbour said. "Mrs. Egbukole was still trying to flog her with a mop stick."
The neighbour said at first she thought Hope was attacked with pepper or cold water as in the past.
"I thought it was just water and pepper, or something, until the girl screamed back again in my room and I shouted, ‘What!’ the breast has peeled already. So I shouted and said ‘Come you did this thing to this girl and you still want to flog her again? I will report you to the police and NAPTIP; at that point she started begging and immediately she started telling lies," the neighbour said.
Mrs. Egbukole claimed Hope poured herself water, according to a neighbour.
But the woman had a history of abusing the girl, the neighbour said, citing how Mrs. Egbukole a day earlier had hit Hope with a curtain rail, injuring her in the head.
Mr Opara alleges that Hope was trafficked to Abuja. According to him, Mrs Egbukole said the girl was brought to her by a pastor who usually supplied girls from Nasarawa State to Abuja residents seeking house helps.
"She said she does not know the girl’s parents, Mr. Oparah added.
The commission immediately made a reported to the Commissioner of Police, Abuja, who directed further investigations into the case. Mrs. Egbukole will most likely be charged for abuse of the Child Rights’ Act, 2003.
"The Child Rights’ Act clearly states the responsibility of parents or wards, as well as government or other agencies involved; regarding the dignity of the child, as well as the child’s right to adequate health and health services, which have both been abused in this case," Oparah said.
Mrs Egbukole and her husband had been at the FCT police command for interrogation and would be required to return intermittently till the end of the investigation.
The Abuja police spokesperson, Manzah Adjuguri, who confirmed the incident said Mrs. Egbukole claims that the pastor who brought Hope from Nasarawa was her uncle. He assured the matter will be charged after investigation.
"It is a matter of concern to the command based on the rate of injuries that has been sustained by the girl. And for us, here at the command, justice must take its full course," he stated.
Adjuguri further said the command was still in touch with Hope, who is currently recovering under the custody of NAPTIP.
The spokesperson of NAPTIP, Joshua Emerole, said Hope would remain under the agency’s care until the end of the investigation and that Mrs Egbukole faces other charges including the violation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015.

7 Parents identify their daughters for the new Boko Haram video wey them release

– Mothers of the abducted Chibock girls indetified their daughters in a new video released by Boko Haram group

– Former negotiator on the release of the girls urged the Islamists to negotiate
Three mothers of female students kidnapped from Chibok, Borno state on the night of 14–15 April, 2014, identified their daughters in a new video released by Boko Haram.

image
The girls – all dressed in full length, black robes – state their names, their school and where they are from
Rifkatu Ayuba, Mary Ishaya and Yana Galang were invited to the viewing centre in Maiduguri by the chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, Bana Lawan.

Seven girls have been identified so far, however, local officials said more identifications needed.

In a video obtained by CNN news channel 15 girls are heard saying they studied in the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok and beg the government to cooperate with militants to bring them back home. The girls spoke in Hausa and Kibaku, the local Chibok language.

“The girls were looking very, very well. They were definitely our daughters… All we want is for the government to bring back our girls,”Mrs Galang said in a telephone interview with the Thomson Reuters Foundation after viewing the video.

Reacting to the new development senator Shehu Sani and former negotiator on the girls’ release found the video credible and advised Boko Haram insurgents to embrace dialogue.

In an interview with CNN on Wednesday he said:“Negotiation will make it possible for these girls to be brought back home alive. What has always been the problem in the last few years has been the very fact there are scam negotiators, who most times make claims and don’t deliver.

And I think this is what we must be very careful of at this time. The very fact that we can get such a credible video from some sources and those sources are elements that need to be utilised to be able to achieve the goal of getting these girls out. When President Muhammadu Buhari took over, a section of our country was taken over by the insurgence group.

They hosted their flags and even unleashed their version of theocratic Islamic group. But now, with funding for the military and support by the government, the morale is high, the military had been able to push them back and most of the cities in the North-East are safe.

Buhari has not been able to achieve 100 per cent success but he has made serious progress. I believe he can still achieve more.

With the very fact that now, they know clearly they cannot win militarily and the only option is to go for other ways. There is no other way other than for them to agree to negotiate on the release of these girls.”

The video is believed to have been made last December as part of the discussions between the government and the extremist group. It is the first footage of the girls to be seen since May 2014.

Their whereabouts are yet to be established.

According to Amnesty International about 2,000 girls and boys have been abducted by the Boko Haram since 2014, with many used as sex slaves, fighters and suicide bombers.

Boko haram: Chibok girls still they alive, see the girls for their new video

image

– Nawa oo so chibok girls still dey alive... We just see am for CNN for one video of 15 Chibok girls, wey dey represent all the missing girls

– The Mother of one of the chibok girls still sabi her daughter

– Dey release this video around December time as part of the negotiations between Nigeria and Boko Haram sect

image

The video of 15 Chibok girls was unveiled as a part of negotiations with the boko Haram sect.

International news channel, CNN, has obtained the video that shows 15 of the Chibok girls abducted two years ago who are alive and looking well taken care of.
The recording was reportedly sent by kidnappers to negotiators as a proof of life.

The report said it had been seen by negotiators and some members of the Federal government, but has now been shown to the parents of the missing girls.

One of the mothers Rifkatu Ayuba has spotted her long-lost, desperately missed, now 17-year-old and cried: “My Saratu!”

The woman reached out to a laptop screen, “the closest she’s been to her child in two years”.

image

Muwa Daniel, one of the abducted girls
Saratu Ayuba is one of 15 girls seen in the video shown to some of the families for the first time at an emotional meeting this week.
“I felt like removing her from the screen,” Saratu’s mother told reporters, desperate to pull her daughter from the mysterious location where she is being held and bring her home.

“If I could, I would have removed her from the screen.”

The girl on the recording is wearing a purple abaya, with a patterned brown scarf covering her hair.

image
Ramati Yaga, one of the Chibok girls
It is considered that the video has been made last December as part of talks between Nigeria and the deadly Boko Haram sect.

The recording was released by someone keen to give the Chibok parents hope that some of their daughters are still alive, and to prompt the government to help rescue them.

The girls with their hair covered show no evident signs of maltreatment.

A man behind the camera questioned the girls:“What’s your name? Was that your name at school? Where were you taken from?”

image

Yuliana Yakubu, one of the Chibok girls abducted two years ago
Each girl gives her name and clarifies that she was taken from Chibok Government Secondary School.

The report further says: “As the two minute clip comes to an end, one of the girls, Naomi Zakaria, makes a final — apparently scripted — appeal to whoever is watching, urging the Nigerian authorities to help reunite the girls with their families.”

“I am speaking on 25 December 2015, on behalf of the all the Chibok girls and we are all well,” she says, emphasizing the word “all”.

Watch the video below:

Two years ago, in the middle of the night of April 14, 276 girls were abducted by Boko Haram from their school dormitory in Chibok, in Nigeria’s northeast. 57 escaped hours later but what happened to the remaining 219 girls has been unknown.

We go deal with all those pipeline vandals the way we deal with Boko Haram- Buhari

image

President Buhari on Wednesday warned vandals and saboteurs blowing up oil and gas installations in Nigeria to desist immediately or face the same drastic action being taken against Boko Haram by the Armed Forces.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Nigerian Community in Beijing, China, President Buhari also reaffirmed his total commitment to winning the war against corruption, saying that corruption was an arch-enemy of the nation which has destroyed the lives of many Nigerians.
"I ask for your support to make our vision of stamping out corruption a reality in the shortest possible time. Whoever is caught will not be spared. The government is still being dared, but those who are sensible should have learnt a lesson. Those who are mad, let them continue in their madness. I am aware that in the last two weeks, the national grid collapsed a number of times. I hope this message will reach the vandals and saboteurs who are blowing up pipelines and installations. We will deal with them the way we dealt with Boko Haram," the President declared.
President Buhari assured the Nigerian Community that the Federal Government was working very hard to overcome current national challenges and deliver on its promise of a better Nigeria.
"Clearly, our vision of a diversified and inclusive economy will not be achieved overnight. It will be a long, and in some cases, painful journey. I am very confident we will get there. But we must start that journey now. We hear proposals for short cuts or quick wins. However, all we need to do is look at our history to know that there are no quick wins or short cuts in fixing Nigeria. The many decades of damage and destruction cannot be repaired overnight. The reform program we are implementing is not because oil prices are below $45 per barrel today. It is because when oil prices were over $100 per barrel, majority of Nigerians were still suffering. They were simply forgotten and left behind. So, our reforms are to ensure that the majority of Nigerians are not left behind," the President told the gathering.
President Buhari also assured the Nigerian community that his administration was fulfilling its promise to improve security across the country.
"When we came into office in 2015, Boko Haram insurgents occupied 14 Local Government Areas. Today, I am pleased to say the insurgents have been routed out of these local governments and their capacity to fight as a force has been significantly degraded. We will continue working hard to ensure that the group is eliminated. This is achievable. And we will not settle for anything less," he said.

FG writes to UK Telegraph over its controversial article about Nigeria

image

The Federal Government has written to UK Telegraph over a report published by the media house yesterday April 12th, that alleged that the Nigerian government is using aids gotten from the UK government to fight its political enemies. Read the Federal government's letter to UK Telegraph after the cut...

Our attention has been drawn to a piece published in your paper, by one Con Coughlin, identified as your Defence Editor, and titled, ‘Nigeria using UK aid to persecute president's political foes rather to fight Boko Haram.’

The piece is not only full of factual inaccuracies, it also betrays a shocking level of ignorance of Nigeria and the country’s ongoing war against terrorism.

Mr Coughlin’s editorial tactic is to quote unnamed “senior officials” and “Western diplomats” and “Western officials” and “political opponents” making fact-free and unfounded statements. It also appears that he sought out only those opinions which suited and reinforced his disgracefully false headline. Nowhere in the piece is there anything that suggests he attempted to contact the Nigerian government for its own side of the story.

Coughlin writes that “American officials are also angry that $2.1 billion of aid given to the Nigerian military to tackle Boko Haram has not been properly accounted for.”

It does not occur to him that the $2.1 billion he refers to was budgeted for and wholly spent by the government that President Buhari and his party defeated in the March 2015 presidential elections, and that one of President Buhari’s priorities has been investigating the misuse of those funds.

It also does not appear to occur to Mr. Coughlin that the “political opponents” he is falsely accusing President Buhari of “targeting” and "persecuting" are actually on trial on account of how they spent the $2.1 billion in question. Mr. Coughlin is equally unaware of the fact that the investigating panel set up by Mr. Buhari to probe the $2.1 billion recently published a preliminary report that confirmed that much of that money was indeed looted or mis-spent by the accused persons, and that the government has started to recover the funds.

Coughlin accuses President Buhari's government of attempting to cover-up the abductions of 400 women and children "abducted last year by militants from the Nigerian town of Damasak."

This is absolutely untrue. The Damasak abductions he’s referring to, which were recently widely reported, took place, not “last year” as he says, but in late 2014, well before Mr. Buhari was elected President of Nigeria. (And, by the way, Mr Buhari came to power on May 29, 2015, not July, as Coughlin reports).

A simple search by Mr. Coughlin of his paper’s archives would have revealed these facts. A simple fact-check by his copy-editors would have spared the Telegraph the embarrassment of publishing this drivel.

There are several other inaccuracies and baseless statements in the piece, but Mr. Coughlin is too enamoured of his anonymous sources to realise they might be misleading him, or be as ignorant about the situation as he is. The suggestion that Boko Haram is going "from strength to strength" is an eminently laughable one; not even Nigeria's opposition party would make such an absurd claim.

Since President Buhari took office, schools in Borno State, shut for more than one year under the previous government, have reopened. The same applies to the airport in Maiduguri, shut down in December 2013 after a devastating Boko Haram attack on the nearby military airbase.
Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have now started returning home. Last Sunday, El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club played its first game in its home base of Maiduguri in more than two seasons. Until now they had been forced to play home games outside the region, on account of security concerns. There are several more examples of how the people of the region are finally getting a chance to rebuild their lives, as the Nigerian Armed Forces and a Multinational Joint Task Force continue their work of routing the terrorists.

Mr. Coughlin not only sounds like a spokesperson for the very people whose corruption and mismanagement allowed Boko Haram to bring Nigeria to its knees – and whose disastrous legacy President Buhari has spent the last one year redeeming Nigeria from – he is also guilty of failing to observe the most basic rules of responsible journalism.

Mr Coughlin needs a refresher course on responsible journalism as much as he needs a crash course on Nigeria. Until he submits himself to these, we’re afraid he will continue to embarrass not only himself, but also the revered British media institution that is the Telegraph.Garba Shehu

Girl talk Says This Politician Drug her, Sleep With Her & snap Her n*k*ed Photos

A 30-year-old lady, Ms Paula Lawrence has dragged a known politician Anietie Ekong, who is the media aide to Senator Godswill Akpabio, ex-governor of Akwa Ibom State, before a federal high court, for allegedly drugging her drink, sleeping her while under the influence of the drugged drink and using his phone to take her n*de pictures.
After her n*de photos leak, the lady is now seeking N100m as damages for the emotional, psychological and reputational pain, torture she had been caused as a result of the incident.
Ms Paula accuses Mr Ekong of sleeping with her without her consent in the hotel room. Ms Paula, through her lawyer, Oseini Bamigbaiye, sought the court restraint Ekong from further harassment, threatening and invasion of her privacy and an order compelling him to tender an unreserved and written apologies on all the social media platforms through which he defamed her with the pictures.
Ms Paula, who is a graduate of Theatre Arts from University of Uyo, said Akpabio’s aide drugged and had s*x with her, took her N*de pics and then circulated them on social media after she met him in a hotel in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state.
Ms Paula said she met Ekong sometime in 2014, during the commissioning of the international stadium in Uyo where they exchanged numbers.
According to her, they later met at an hotel in Uyo, where he slept with her when she was allegedly drunk and took her pictures.
She said: “In the room, he brought out the bottle of red wine from the luggage in his wardrobe. At that time, I was pressed and had to use the toilet. Before I came back, he had poured the wine in the glass. I drank from my glass of wine, while he drank from his.
“When I wanted to drink from his glass of wine, he refused me, saying I should drink from mine. Shortly after drinking I started feeling dizzy and drunk. He made love to me and I slept off till morning. I did not know that while I was drunk, he took N*de picture of me with his cell phone camera.”
Sources say efforts to reach mr Ekong failed as his mobile phone rang many times unanswered.

Please Help! My Husband No Dey Make Love with me again.... I Wan Divorce am

When things get this dirty in a marriage, it means the couple have not managed their affairs well for a long time; the wife has refused to accept her roles as a wife, the husband has failed to play his roles too.
A businesswoman, Latifat Adeleke pleaded with a Mapo Customary Court to dissolve her marriage with her husband, Adetola Adeleke, over alleged s*xual starvation.
Latifat, a mother of two, asked the court to end their nine-year-old marriage after declaring that she was “totally fed up.”
In her petition to the court, Latifat alleged that Mr Adeleke, a spare parts dealer, aside from neglecting his traditional responsibilities of catering for her and the two children, had no time for her.
“The worst of all, my Lord, is that he has kept away from having s*xual intercourse with me which greatly saddens my heart. We no longer stay together and the bond of love between us has disappeared.”
On his part, Mr Adeleke, told the court that he was ready to part ways with Latifat. He alleged that his wife was adulterous, extravagant and a party enthusiast.
“I once caught her red-handed with her lover on our matrimonial bed. When I asked her if what she did was right or not, there was no remorse, even when it actually happened on our matrimonial home.”
He added, “Please, my Lord, I don’t want her to take custody of the eight and six year-old children, because she doesn’t stay around; Latifat keeps going to parties.”
After listening to both parties, the president of the court said it's obvious that things have fallen apart.

Talk about Fulani Herdsmen: mimiko challenge Buhari

– The governor said if the government fails to act, the country may be heading toward a precipice

– Mimiko prevailed on members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) to shun their planned reprisal on herdsmen

-He said that urgent actions are not taken, people may resort to self help

Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko
Following the killing of a security guard attached to the farm of the former presidential candidate Chief Olu Falae, in Akure by Fulani herdsmen, Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has said the Federal Government must stop the incessant killings of people, particularly farmers, by Fulani herdsmen.

The OPC members had threatened a reprisal attack on Fulani herdsmen as the late Ayodele Igewas the OPC coordinator in Akure North Local Government.
According to Nation newspaper, Mimiko prevailed on members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) to shun their planned reprisal on herdsmen in the interest of peaceful and harmonious co-existence.

The governor said if the government fails to act, the country may be heading toward a precipice noting that urgent actions are not taken, people may resort to self help.

“We are moving towards the precipice and the earlier we pull back the better for us all. All major stakeholders must come together on how to resolve this issue.

“These herdsmen must be called to order. These wanton destructions, audacious incursions on other people’s territory cannot continue for too long. We must be concerned as a nation that this is a menace that poses a threat to us as nation.

“I am again appealing to Mr President and all the major stakeholders to let’s sort out this.
“For me, I see the grazing reserves aggravating the problem, though I’ve not read the law but I don’t see how that law can find comfort with the land use act. The control of land is vested in the governor, I can’t see any federal law that will compulsorily acquire any land from any state, in my state, for example, it cannot work.

“The owners of these cattle, according to the information at my disposal, are well to do people, they are elite. If cattle rearing is a commercial venture, why should they not contribute to set up the ranches? After all, they don’t sell these cattle for free.
“We have been talking about diversification and agriculture is the main focus but in my state there’s hardly any medium scale or large scale farmers that has not had any encounter or the other with the herdsmen.

“I think if we don’t do anything about the activities of these herdsmen, I can see a threat to the security of this country so it’s a major challenge and I think the President and all major stakeholders should take this as a very serious challenge.”

OPC State Coordinator Pius Ogunsanya said members would go ahead with their planned reprisal, if security operatives fail to apprehend the killers.

See Why justice Abang no fit continue with Olisa Metuh’s trial

– A civil society organization (CSO) has said that the ongoing trial of Metuh has been mismanaged and also assumed a controversial dimension
– The organization said that open altercation between Justice Okon Abang and the defendants on allegations of bias and infraction of the court has jeopardized the trial
– The CSO called on the chief justice of the federation and the National Judiciary Council (NJC) to do the needful in protecting the integrity of the institutions

Justice Okon Abang

A civil Society organization, Civil Society Coalition in Defence of Democracy has expressed disappointment over the trial of the spokes person for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, April 5, the chairman of the organization, James Michael said the ongoing trial of Metuh has been mismanaged and also assumed a controversial dimension.

Michael said the open altercation between the judge over the matter, Okon Abang and the defendants on allegations of bias and infraction of the court has jeopardized the trial to the extent that any judgement delivered on the matter may no longer be seen as credible, fair and just.

“First, we find unacceptable the continued externalization of the court process by the trial judge and the prosecution, a development, which undermines the sanctity of the process and gave the leeway for the miscarriage of the process from court trial to media trial,”Michael said.

He said the judiciary must guide against salient issues denting the ongoing high profile trial.

“Also, the orchestrated publications propagating the position of the prosecution to the media as witnessed in the April 4, 2016 reports in a section of the media, even when the matter contained has not been opened for debate in the court heavily detracts from the integrity of the trial process,”he said.

Michael also said the action of the prosecutor, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in defending the judge and insisting he must not hands off the case raises concerns.

He said:“This action of the prosecution in going public with its defence amounts to an intimidation of the court, a development that bears pressure on the judge, especially one that is already having altercation with the defence.”

“Furthermore, we have carefully examined the issues raised in the request for transfer of case and motion for the judge to disqualify himself and noted certain issues, which should be addressed.

“Whereas Nigerians look forward to a speedy and credible dispensation of justice, we must state categorically that we are not happy that the trial judge and the EFCC have mismanaged this trial.
